Dudhwa in May

Timing changes everything in Dudhwa. May sits in the hot, only with strict protocols of the North India calendar, the kind of month that defines what you get from the trip more than any other variable, including the stay choice. Dudhwa is open only from roughly mid-November to mid-June, closing through the monsoon from July to October when the Terai floods and animals breed. Within the open season, December to February brings cool, misty mornings and comfortable safaris but the grass is at its highest, which can make cats harder to see. March to mid-June grows hot, but thinning grass and shrinking water sources concentrate wildlife around waterholes and improve sighting odds, the trade-off being genuine heat. Because it is a wild reserve, even the best months guarantee nothing; the naturalist's skill matters most.

For May specifically: Strictly dawn-only sightseeing; midday rest in cooled stays. The standard Dudhwa architecture (tiger and swamp deer of the terai) is preserved; the day-pacing is rebuilt around this month's conditions.
