Mumbai
The City That Never Sleeps
Overview
Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra and India's financial and film capital, built across a chain of reclaimed islands on the Arabian Sea. Its landmarks span empires: the 1924 Gateway of India, the Victorian-Gothic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the harbour-island Elephanta Caves, all UNESCO-recognised, alongside the city's celebrated Victorian and Art Deco seafront ensemble. Marine Drive, Colaba, and the world's largest film industry give it a restless, cosmopolitan energy unlike anywhere else in India. MyTripMyTravel operates Mumbai as a curated urban leg, heritage-architecture drives, a private Elephanta crossing, and a Koli-seafood and Parsi-cafe dining trail through the old city.
Mumbai is India at maximum intensity. Assembled from seven islands reclaimed into a single peninsula, it is the country's financial engine, the home of Hindi cinema, and a magnet that pulls in migrants from every state, a city of extreme wealth and extreme density living side by side, at a pace that never fully stops.
The architecture tells the story. South Mumbai holds one of the world's finest ensembles of Victorian Gothic and Art Deco buildings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, anchored by the Gateway of India and the extravagant Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Across the harbour, the rock-cut Elephanta Caves carry monumental Shiva sculpture into the sixth century. Between them run Marine Drive's Queen's Necklace, the galleries of Kala Ghoda, and the relentless bazaars of the old town.
MyTripMyTravel runs Mumbai as a sharp, well-sequenced city leg. We time the heritage-architecture drives to the light, arrange a private ferry crossing to Elephanta, and route the food through the city's real institutions, Koli fishing-community seafood, Irani and Parsi cafes, so the megacity is experienced with structure rather than overwhelm.

Mumbai in brief
When to visit
November to February
The cool, dry window from November to February is by far the most comfortable, pleasant days, low humidity, and clear light for the seafront architecture. March to May is hot and sticky. The southwest monsoon (June to September) is dramatic and heavy, with intense rain that can flood low-lying areas; the city stays open and green, but sightseeing needs flexible timing. Our planners build monsoon buffer into any June to September arrival day.

Mumbai, your questions
How many days do I need in Mumbai?
Two to three nights is ideal, one day for South Mumbai's heritage architecture and Marine Drive, one for Elephanta and the food trail, with time to absorb a long-haul arrival.
How do I get to Elephanta Caves?
By ferry from the Gateway of India, roughly an hour each way. We arrange a private or priority crossing and a guide, and time it to avoid the midday heat and crowds. Note the caves are closed on Mondays.
Is Mumbai a good base for Ajanta and Ellora?
It is the main international gateway for them. The caves are near Aurangabad, about 335 km east; we sequence Mumbai as the arrival leg and route onward to the Ajanta to Ellora circuit by flight or fleet.
What is the best time to visit Mumbai?
November to February for cool, dry, comfortable weather. The June to September monsoon is intense; we keep those itineraries flexible.
Can you arrange a Bollywood or film-city experience?
Yes. We can arrange curated film-city visits and behind-the-scenes access where available, alongside the heritage and food programme.
Is Mumbai safe for visitors?
Mumbai is among India's safer major cities and very walkable in the south. With our chauffeur and guide logistics, navigation, crowds, and evenings out are all managed for you.
