Timing changes everything in Valparai. June sits in the extreme heat into pre-monsoon of the South India calendar, the kind of month that defines what you get from the trip more than any other variable, including the stay choice. The most comfortable window runs from September to March, after the heaviest rains, when the estates are lush, the air is cool, and the ghat road is at its most reliable. Valparai lies in a high-rainfall belt of the Western Ghats, so the southwest monsoon from around June to August brings very heavy rain, leeches, mist, and a real risk of slips on the ghat, beautiful but demanding. Wildlife activity is often best in the cooler early mornings and late afternoons, though sightings are never guaranteed in any season.
