You enter the Taj Mahal at opening for the low-crowd first light, working the changing colour on the marble, the symmetry and the detail of the pietra dura inlay before the day-tourists arrive.

The afternoon moves to the red-sandstone Agra Fort for light-play sessions among its arches, jali screens and the framed Taj views across the river.

En route to Jaipur you spend the golden afternoon at Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar's abandoned red-sandstone capital, working its carved textures, geometry and the vast Buland Darwaza gateway.

After the light goes you continue the drive to Jaipur, arriving late to be in position for a dawn shoot at the Hawa Mahal.

At first light you shoot the Hawa Mahal from the facing rooftop café, when the rising sun hits the pink honeycomb facade and the street below is still quiet.

In the afternoon you work the symmetry of Panna Meena ka Kund, the 16th-century criss-cross stepwell near Amber, whose staircases are a photographer's geometry playground.

Golden hour is spent at Amber and Nahargarh forts, working the warm side-light on the ramparts and the panoramic views over the Pink City below.

You add portrait work at an elephant village, then close with a guided review-and-editing session, culling, developing and critiquing your best frames from the week.

A final morning photographing the Pink City bazaars, bangles, textiles, flower markets and daily life in the walled old town.

By early afternoon you begin the drive back to Delhi for your onward flight, memory cards full.
