LACHUNGGateway to the Yumthang Valley
The Brief
Lachung is a mountain village in North Sikkim, India, at roughly 2,700 m at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers. It is the base for the Yumthang Valley — the 'Valley of Flowers' — and the high-altitude Zero Point near the Tibet frontier, reached through a permit-controlled protected zone. Lachung is the deep-Himalaya extension of the Sikkim circuit. MyTripMyTravel operates Lachung as a permit-managed, acclimatised high-valley mission with curated stays and medically aware pacing.
Lachung is where the Sikkim circuit goes deep — a North Sikkim village in a protected high zone that exists, for the traveller, as the base for the Yumthang Valley and the road toward Zero Point on the Tibetan frontier.
Yumthang in spring is a genuine valley of rhododendron and primula; the higher reaches toward Zero Point are raw, snow-streaked, and permit-controlled. This is altitude and frontier country — the route, the permits, and the pacing matter as much as the scenery.
MyTripMyTravel runs Lachung as a controlled extension: protected-area permits handled end to end, acclimatised pacing from a Gangtok base, and curated mountain-lodge stays in a region with limited infrastructure.

When to Deploy
March – mid-June, October – December
Mid-March to mid-June is the rhododendron and primula bloom in Yumthang — the signature season. October to December offers clear, crisp high-valley views. The monsoon (late June–September) brings serious landslide risk on the North Sikkim road. Deep winter can close the route with snow. Spring is the iconic window.

LACHUNG FAQDo I need permits for Lachung and Yumthang?
Yes — North Sikkim is a protected area requiring permits, which we arrange and manage end to end as part of the mission.
When is the Yumthang bloom?
Roughly mid-March to mid-June for rhododendron and primula — the valley's signature season.
How is Lachung accessed?
From a Gangtok base, as a permit-managed, acclimatised chauffeured extension of about 6 hours each way.
Is Zero Point always open?
No — it is high, frontier-controlled, and weather-dependent. We confirm access and pace it with acclimatisation in mind.
