KOVALAMThe Lighthouse Beach Coast
The Brief
Kovalam is a beach town on the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala, India, near the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. It is known for its crescent-shaped beaches — chiefly Lighthouse, Hawah, and Samudra — backed by palm groves and laterite headlands, and for its long-established Ayurvedic resort culture. Kovalam is the coastal-and-wellness counterpoint to the Kerala backwaters circuit. MyTripMyTravel operates Kovalam as a sea-and-Ayurveda leg with clifftop luxury stays and curated practitioner-led wellness programmes.
Kovalam is Kerala's sea register — the Arabian Sea coast that closes a southern India circuit with salt air rather than still backwater. It was one of India's earliest international beach destinations and the Ayurveda culture here is correspondingly deep.
The three linked crescents — Lighthouse, Hawah, and Samudra — sit below laterite headlands and palm groves, with the red-and-white Vizhinjam lighthouse as the landmark. Nearby Thiruvananthapuram adds the Padmanabhaswamy temple and Napier Museum for a heritage half-day.
MyTripMyTravel runs Kovalam as a sea-and-wellness close: clifftop luxury stays, structured practitioner-led Ayurveda via our sanctuary wing, and a sequenced finish before the Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) departure.

When to Deploy
September – March
September to March offers calm seas and pleasant humidity ideal for the coast and Ayurveda programmes. December to February is peak. The monsoon (June–August) is heavy on the coast — though monsoon Ayurveda (Karkidaka chikitsa) is a traditional treatment season for serious wellness guests. April–May is hot and humid. Winter is optimal for a beach-and-wellness close.

How does Kovalam fit a Kerala trip?
As the sea-and-wellness close after Kochi, Munnar, and the backwaters, finishing near the Thiruvananthapuram (TRV) airport.
Is monsoon a bad time for Kovalam?
For beach time, yes — but the monsoon is the traditional Karkidaka Ayurveda treatment season, which serious wellness guests deliberately choose.
How many nights in Kovalam?
Two to three for a beach close; longer if following a structured Ayurveda programme.
