The last great palace of the Indian princely era Umaid Bhawan Palace is a 1929-1943 palace on the highest point of Jodhpur, India, commissioned by Maharaja Umaid Singh and designed by Edwardian architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester in the Indo-Saracenic style. From Tokyo, the routing is the first decision: Jodhpur has its own commercial airport. From Tokyo, route via Delhi (DEL) or Mumbai (BOM) onwards by short domestic flight, or chauffeured road from Delhi for the slower scenic option.

Tokyo is a long crossing with a significant time shift. We build a firm first-night recovery into the architecture — orientation only, no marquee sites on arrival day. Sleep, light evening, breakfast at the stay, monuments from day two. On the ground, the Umaid Bhawan Palace is sequenced for the prime viewing window — access timed to the prime viewing hours; private guide arranged. — rather than dropped into a generic city sightseeing block.

Beyond the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur sits inside the wider Rajasthan Escapes; we plan the trip end to end on a single chauffeured architecture.

How we run the mission

The Umaid Bhawan Palace — what you're visiting

Umaid Bhawan Palace is the largest private royal residence built anywhere in the 20th century — and the last great palace of the Indian princely era. Maharaja Umaid Singh commissioned it in 1929 partly to honour the centenary of Jodhpur's relations with the British Crown and partly, more practically, as a famine-relief employment scheme during a regional drought.
