NAINITALThe Lake District of the Kumaon
The Brief
Nainital is a hill station in the Kumaon foothills of Uttarakhand, India, set at roughly 2,000 m around the emerald Naini Lake. A British-era summer retreat, it is known for lake boating, the Mall Road promenade, the Naina Devi temple, and Snow View and Tiffin Top vantage points over the Himalaya. It is the gateway to the Kumaon and to Jim Corbett National Park. MyTripMyTravel operates Nainital as a colonial lake-station leg with heritage stays.
Nainital is the Kumaon's lake-district counterpart to Shimla — a British hill station built around a glacial-looking lake, with a walkable colonial core and Himalayan vantages a short climb away.
Naini Lake is the centre of gravity: boating, the lakeside Naina Devi temple, and the Mall Road promenade. Above it, Snow View and Tiffin Top open onto the high Himalaya on a clear day, and the town is the natural base for the wider Kumaon and Corbett.
MyTripMyTravel runs Nainital with heritage-hotel stays, an escorted lake-and-ridge circuit timed away from domestic peak crowds, and onward links into Kumaon or Corbett.

When to Deploy
March – June, September – November
March to June is the pleasant summer-retreat season; September to November offers crisp post-monsoon Himalayan clarity. December to February brings cold and occasional snow. The monsoon (July–August) risks landslides on the hill roads. Spring and autumn are optimal for lake activity and mountain views.

NAINITAL FAQHow many nights in Nainital?
Two — one for the lake and colonial core, one for the ridge vantages or a Kumaon/Corbett extension.
Can you combine Nainital with Jim Corbett?
Yes — Corbett is a natural wildlife extension from Nainital, which we sequence with paced logistics.
When are Himalayan views best?
Clear post-monsoon days September–November, and spring; monsoon obscures the peaks and risks landslides.
How do I reach Nainital?
Most missions take the 7-hour chauffeured leg from Delhi, or rail to Kathgodam then a mountain transfer.
