Neemrana
The Hillside Fort Halfway to Jaipur
Overview
Neemrana is a historic town in Rajasthan on the Delhi to Jaipur highway (NH-48), roughly 117 km from Delhi and 155 km from Jaipur, almost exactly midway. Its centrepiece is the Neemrana Fort-Palace, built in 1464 and terraced dramatically into an Aravalli hillside; restored as one of India's first heritage hotels, it is known for its zip-line and its stepwell (baori). Once the seat of Chauhan Rajputs descended from Prithviraj Chauhan, Neemrana today is the classic first-night halt or heritage-lunch stop that turns the Delhi to Jaipur drive into an experience rather than a transfer.
Neemrana solves a specific problem elegantly. The drive between Delhi and Jaipur is long enough to blunt the start of a Rajasthan trip, and Neemrana sits almost exactly at its midpoint, a chance to break the journey inside a 15th-century fort rather than at a highway service stop.
The Neemrana Fort-Palace is the reason to come. Dating to 1464 and built into an Aravalli hillside in tiers, it was among the first Indian forts to be sensitively restored into a heritage hotel, and it set the template much of the country followed. Its ramparts and hanging gardens step down the slope over multiple levels, looking out across the plains; the property is also known for its Flying Fox zip-line circuit and the deep, geometric Neemrana baori (stepwell) in the town below.
For MyTripMyTravel guests, Neemrana works two ways: as a relaxed first night out of Delhi that starts the trip in heritage surroundings, or as an unhurried heritage lunch that splits the Delhi to Jaipur leg. Either way it converts a transfer into part of the itinerary, with a chauffeured arrival straight onto the historic Delhi to Jaipur road.

Neemrana in brief
When to visit
October to March
October to March is ideal, with cool evenings perfect for dining on the fort's open terraces and clear air over the Aravalli plains at sunset. April to June brings intense Rajasthan heat that makes the exposed ramparts uncomfortable by day, though the hillside catches evening breeze. The monsoon (July to September) greens the surrounding hills and is quiet, but views can be hazy. As a stopover, Neemrana works year-round; the winter window simply makes the terraces most pleasant.
