UDAIPURThe City of Lakes
The Brief
Udaipur is a city in southern Rajasthan, India, founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the capital of the Mewar kingdom. Built around a chain of artificial lakes — chiefly Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar — it is known as the 'City of Lakes' and the 'Venice of the East'. Its landmarks include the City Palace (the largest palace complex in Rajasthan), the island Lake Palace, and Jagdish Temple. Udaipur is a natural extension of the Golden Triangle into Rajasthan and a leading destination for royal weddings. MyTripMyTravel operates Udaipur as a slow-luxury and celebration base — lake-palace stays, private boat protocols, and Mewar heritage dining.
Udaipur is the romantic counter-argument to the rest of Rajasthan's desert intensity. Where Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are arid and fortress-hard, Udaipur is water, reflection, and Mewar refinement — a city the maharanas built around lakes precisely so it would feel like this.
The City Palace runs for nearly a kilometre along Lake Pichola, a stacked complex of courtyards, balconies, and mirror rooms still partly inhabited by the Mewar family. On the water, the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir float as white marble islands. Around them, the Jagdish Temple, the Saheliyon ki Bari gardens, and the craft lanes of the old city give the place a density that rewards a slower stay than a single night.
MyTripMyTravel uses Udaipur two ways: as the slow, restorative leg after the Golden Triangle's pace, and as the premier base for royal weddings and milestone celebrations. Private sunset boat protocols, palace-suite stays, and Mewar-recipe dining are arranged as a single curated layer.

Udaipur at a glance
When to Deploy
September – March
Udaipur is at its most photogenic from September to March, when post-monsoon lakes are full and the light is soft on the marble. October to February is peak wedding and celebration season — palace venues book months ahead. Summer (April–June) is hot and the lakes can recede; the monsoon is brief, dramatic, and refills the lakes for the prime season.

UDAIPUR FAQWhy is Udaipur popular for weddings?
Its lake palaces, island venues, and Mewar heritage hotels provide a setting unmatched in India. Our weddings wing handles venue, fleet convoys, and guest logistics end to end.
How do I get from Jaipur to Udaipur?
A 40-minute flight, or a 6.5-hour chauffeured drive that can be routed via Pushkar or Chittorgarh to add heritage stops along the way.
How many nights should I plan in Udaipur?
Two to three. Udaipur is the slow-luxury leg of a Rajasthan itinerary — it rewards an unhurried stay rather than a single night.
Can you arrange a private boat on Lake Pichola?
Yes. We arrange private sunset boat protocols past Jag Mandir and the Lake Palace, subject to lake levels and authority clearance.
