MANALIGateway to the High Passes
The Brief
Manali is a resort town in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India, at roughly 2,000 m on the Beas river. It is known for the cedar-forested Old Manali, the Hadimba Devi temple, the Solang Valley adventure belt, and as the southern gateway to the high Trans-Himalayan passes — Rohtang and the Atal Tunnel toward Lahaul and Leh. Manali is the adventure-and-staging hub of the western Himalayan circuit. MyTripMyTravel operates Manali as a high-passes launch leg with luxury riverside stays and curated mountain access.
Manali is the western Himalaya's hinge: relaxed cedar-and-river resort town on one side, and the staging point for the high passes on the other. How you use it depends on which way you're facing.
Old Manali and the Hadimba temple sit in deodar forest above the Beas; the Solang and Sissu belts deliver the adventure register; and the Atal Tunnel has transformed access to Lahaul, opening the Trans-Himalayan landscape that was once a seasonal gamble over the Rohtang pass.
MyTripMyTravel runs Manali two ways: as a restful riverside luxury stay, and as the acclimatised launch point for the seasonal high-altitude drive toward Leh. Permits, vehicle capability, and pacing are handled as a single controlled operation.

When to Deploy
March – June, September – November
March to June is pleasant with the high passes opening progressively. September to November offers clear post-monsoon air. The Manali–Leh road is typically open only roughly June to September. December–February brings snow and adventure-sports season but limited high-altitude access. The monsoon risks landslides. For the Leh connection, plan June–September.

How many nights in Manali?
Two to three — more if staging the Leh drive, which requires acclimatisation time.
Is the Atal Tunnel worth a day?
Yes — it opens the stark Lahaul landscape on a comfortable day trip that previously required the difficult Rohtang crossing.

Roughly June to September. Outside that window, Manali is a riverside-luxury and adventure base rather than a Leh launch.
